Restore Smooth Skin with Facial Fillers in Nashville

SKINCARE

Hyaluronic acid injectables are the most popular types of facial fillers for improving the appearance of wrinkles and enhancing other areas of the face. Restylane® is a biodegradable non-animal based hyaluronic acid dermal filler for restoring volume and fullness to the skin.

SKINCARE

It is completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid—a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to keep skin moisturized by absorbing water from the surrounding atmosphere or other tissues. The soft, gel-like family of FDA-approved Restylane® at Nashville Plastic Surgery Institute makes the skin fuller and smoother so that it appears less wrinkled. Restylane® is used for the correction of moderate facial wrinkles and folds, perioral lines such as smoker’s lines, pre-jowl areas, cheeks, under eyes, and lips.

More About Restylane®

Young skin is firm, buoyant, and smooth because it contains an abundance of collagen, elastin, fat, and hyaluronic acid. Over time, your skin gradually loses a significant percentage of these components, leading it to become thin, frail, and more prone to developing wrinkles. This is a result of normal aging, and there’s not much that can be done to prevent it. Lifestyle habits such as smoking and exposure to external elements like gravity, air pollution, harsh weather, and ultraviolet radiation also take a toll on the skin, causing the collagen fibers to weaken. Eventually, it’s common for wrinkles, sagging, and hollows to develop, especially on the middle and lower two-thirds of the face.

The main benefit of facial fillers like the Restylane® line is that they take the place of the collagen, fat, and other substances your skin is deficient in. Restylane® is injected directly below the skin with a fine needle and fills out areas where extra volume is needed. The injection procedure is simple, fast, and almost completely painless for patients. It usually is finished within less than an hour at our Nashville Plastic Surgery Institute office, and patients won’t need to take time off to recover. There are some minor, temporary side effects—such as bruising, redness, tenderness, and swelling—that will go away within a few days.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Restylane®?

These fillers are considered to be low-risk, and most adults over the age of 21 who want to minimize facial wrinkles or enhance other features would be good candidates for Restylane®—as long as they don’t have any infections or irritation of the skin in the treatment area. Patients with allergies to bacterial protein, hyaluronic acid, or lidocaine and those who have inflammatory skin conditions, bleeding disorders, are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking blood thinners should not have Restylane® injections.

What Can Restylane® Address?

The Restylane® brand consists of a range of different fillers with different particle sizes that each have their own abilities and limitations. Most areas of the face, especially the center and lower parts around the nose, mouth, cheeks, jaw, chin, and on the lips can benefit from Restylane®. It is effective for deep folds and creases, as well as for superficial fine lines. It’s commonly used to target nasolabial folds, which are the “laugh lines” that stretch from the base of the nose to the sides of mouth. The thicker, more stable Restylane® fillers are used for adding lift and volume to the cheekbones, while lighter, thinner fillers are used for lip augmentation and smaller wrinkles.

Other Types of Wrinkle Treatments

Belotero® and the JUVEDERM® family are alternatives to Restylane®, used for similar parts of the face. Along with fillers, there are other minimally invasive skin treatments available at Nashville Plastic Surgery Institute, including light-based options such as laser skin resurfacing and IPL that trigger collagen production to reduce wrinkles and fade unwanted pigmentation or other irregularities that affect the tone and texture of the skin. Chemical peels and Morpheus8 microneedling are treatments for triggering collagen regeneration and skin cell turnover to enhance the general appearance of the skin. BOTOX® and other botulinum toxin type A wrinkle relaxers are designed to address expression wrinkles, such as crow’s feet and frown lines, which are caused by overused facial muscles and can’t be corrected with facial fillers. These skin rejuvenation techniques can be combined with facial fillers like Restylane® to maximize results.
